Hard Data for Hard Decisions
They are the applicants who keep you up at nights: The ambitious entrepreneur with a 4.0 undergraduate GPA but low GMAT score, or the energetic undergraduate with the tantalizing GMAT scores but dismal GPA. Not to mention the one you turned down who now questions the fairness of your decision.
GMAC offers you a custom power tool to make tough calls ─ or justify the calls you’ve already made. The GMAT Validity Study Service is a statistical analysis of your student information that is:
- Immediately applicable. The report will help you make data-driven admissions decisions. See right away how GMAT scores and undergraduate grade-point averages correlate to mid-program grade-point averages.
- Transparent. The breakdown showing how GMAT scores and grades work together adds science to the art of admissions. Tables showing who succeeds in your programs can protect you against charges of unfairness, improve your decision making process, and help you quantify what you do for accreditation purposes.
- Customizable to your needs. Add your own predictive factors (work experience, interview scores); grouping variables (international vs. domestic; part-time/full-time); or criteria (quantitative GPA; job offers). The more data you add, the more precise the study will be.
- Statistically rigorous. VSS methodology has been peer reviewed and published in well-respected journals.
- Full-service. A GMAC psychometrician will work with you to submit as many data points as you choose.
- Fast. Once you download your data, you’ll receive your personalized study within two weeks.
- Free to any school using GMAT scores.
What factors into success?
If your school or program uses GMAT scores, you can submit your students’ scores, undergraduate grade-point averages, mid-program grade-point averages, and other variables you choose. GMAC conducts a statistical analysis quantifying the importance of each variable in your program(s) and predicting success based on combinations of variables. The study can also tell you which students may be at risk for academic difficulty.
The Validity Study Service report includes an easy-to-use matrix showing the probability, by GMAT score and undergraduate GPA, that a student will fall in the lowest quartile in your program by mid-point grades.

The Validity Study Service can also give you hard data on:
- How to weight variables like test scores, work, and grades for different student populations (male/female, traditional/non-traditional, and domestic/international).
- How different programs at your school should weight different admissions factors differently.
- How important some specific variables are in predicting success.
Show your strength
Protect your decision making process and contribute to accreditation cases by documenting how well your admission procedures work. The Validity Study Service can tell you precisely:
- How well specially admitted students do in your program.
- How closely GMAT scores and grades correlate with success in your program compared with other business programs.
- How well your admission procedures work.
